Why We Built SearchOnMac: Searching by Memory Instead of Exact Filenames
You rarely remember what a file was called. You remember when you used it, where it came from and what you were doing. We built a Mac search that works from that.

Most of us have stared at Spotlight trying to remember whether a presentation was saved as 'Pitch_Deck_v3_Final.key', 'Presentation_Sept.pdf' or 'Sync_Q3.key'. Memory doesn't work in file names. It works in time, context and what you were doing.
The Filename Problem
Files now arrive with generated names, live in Downloads, Desktop, project folders and cloud drives, and sit next to dozens of open browser tabs and terminal windows.
What you actually remember sounds like: 'the financial report I downloaded this morning', 'the terminal where the Flutter build failed' or 'the Firebase link I copied earlier'.

Understanding What You Remember
SearchOnMac reads a query for the parts people naturally use: what kind of thing it is, where it lives, when you used it and what you want to do with it. It then searches its own index on your Mac for items that match all of them.
- Understanding a query takes about 5 ms, on your Mac.
- One search across files, apps, open windows and browser tabs, clipboard, Mail and Calendar.
- Searches never use the network, so they work offline.
Fast Enough to Feel Instant
A launcher has to keep up with typing. SearchOnMac shows results by name first, usually within about a tenth of a second, and only then lets slower steps (similar meanings, calendar context) reorder them, without moving your selection.
